🏛️ 3-Day Rome Itinerary
The Eternal City
Your 3-Day Rome Plan
Three days in Rome covers the essential ancient, Christian, and Baroque layers of the city — you'll see the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the great piazzas without feeling like you're rushing. The key is starting early each day before the crowds and heat build.
Day 1
Ancient Rome
Start at the Colosseum at opening time (9am) with a pre-booked ticket — the arena floor and underground levels are worth the premium ticket. Walk directly to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, included in the same ticket, and spend the afternoon exploring. End the day in Trastevere for dinner: the neighbourhood's narrow lanes and vine-covered trattorias are Rome at its most atmospheric.
Day 2
Vatican City
The Vatican Museums require a full morning — the gallery of maps, the Raphael Rooms, and the Sistine Chapel are all extraordinary, but allow 3 hours minimum and book the first entry slot. Cross into St Peter's Basilica (free, no booking needed) and climb the dome for one of Rome's great views. Afternoon along the Via della Conciliazione and a gelato by Castel Sant'Angelo.
Day 3
Baroque Rome
The Pantheon (now requires a small entry fee) is most impressive in the morning light streaming through the oculus — arrive early. Walk to the Trevi Fountain (very crowded, best before 8am or after 10pm), then north to the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna. End the day in Piazza Navona, surrounded by Baroque fountains, for an Aperol Spritz as the sun goes down.
