Your 3-Day Amsterdam Plan
Three days in Amsterdam covers the world-class museums, the canal belt, and enough neighbourhood exploration to understand why this compact city holds such an outsized place in the traveller's imagination.
Day 1
Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark
The Rijksmuseum deserves a full morning — the Gallery of Honour with Rembrandt's Night Watch is the centrepiece, but the collection of Delftware, doll's houses, and naval paintings is equally fascinating. Walk through the Museumplein to Vondelpark in the afternoon for a picnic and people-watching — it's the city's living room. Evening drinks in Leidseplein.
Day 2
Anne Frank House and the Jordaan
The Anne Frank House requires pre-booked timed entry and is one of the most moving museum experiences in Europe — allow 90 minutes. The Jordaan neighbourhood surrounding it is Amsterdam's most photogenic: narrow streets, hofjes (hidden almshouse courtyards), and the best independent shops and cafés in the city. Take a canal boat tour in the afternoon for a completely different perspective.
Day 3
De Pijp and Albert Cuyp Market
The Albert Cuyp Market is the largest outdoor market in the Netherlands and a genuine local institution — go before noon for the full experience of stroopwafels, raw herring, and Indonesian street food. The De Pijp neighbourhood around it is Amsterdam's most diverse and interesting for restaurants. Visit the Heineken Experience brewery tour in the afternoon for a fun, interactive history of Dutch beer.
