Your 4-Day Amsterdam Plan

Four days allows you to add the Van Gogh Museum and a day trip out of the city — either to the Keukenhof tulip gardens in spring or to the Zaanse Schans windmill village year-round. It's the ideal length for Amsterdam.

Day 1
Rijksmuseum and Museumplein
Arrive at the Rijksmuseum at opening and spend 3 hours with the Golden Age masters. Museumplein, Vondelpark, and the Van Baerlestraat restaurant strip for dinner.
Day 2
Anne Frank House and Jordaan
Pre-booked Anne Frank House in the morning. Jordaan neighbourhood: hofjes, the Nine Streets shopping district, and a canal boat tour. Evening in the Jordaan's brown cafés (bruine kroegen) — wood-panelled, candlelit, and serving excellent Dutch beer.
Day 3
Day Trip: Keukenhof or Zaanse Schans
April–May: Keukenhof Gardens near Lisse has 7 million tulips in bloom — genuinely spectacular and unlike anything else in the world. Rest of year: Zaanse Schans village (20 minutes by train) has working historic windmills, wooden houses, and a Zaanse mustard factory. Both are easy day trips by public transport.
Day 4
Van Gogh Museum and De Pijp
The Van Gogh Museum houses the world's largest Van Gogh collection — the chronological layout traces his entire artistic development. Pre-book tickets. Albert Cuyp Market and De Pijp neighbourhood in the afternoon for the city's best street food and café culture.
