Your 3-Day Florence Plan

Three days in Florence is enough to see the major art collections, climb the Duomo, and walk the sun-warmed medieval streets at a pace that lets the city's extraordinary density of beauty actually sink in.

Day 1
Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria
Start early at the Duomo complex — book the dome climb in advance and ascend Brunelleschi's extraordinary brick structure for views over the terracotta rooftops. The adjacent Baptistery doors (Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise) are some of the finest bronze work in the world. Afternoon at the Palazzo Vecchio and the open-air sculpture collection in Piazza della Signoria. Dinner in the Oltrarno neighbourhood across the Arno.
Day 2
Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, Oltrarno
Spend the morning at the Uffizi — allow 3 hours minimum, focusing on the Botticelli Room (Birth of Venus, Primavera), Leonardo da Vinci's Annunciation, and the Raphael portraits. Walk across the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge lined with goldsmiths, then explore the Oltrarno neighbourhood for lunch — the streets south of the Arno are less touristy and have excellent trattorias.
Day 3
Accademia, David, and Piazzale Michelangelo
Michelangelo's David at the Accademia in the morning — book entry online; the statue is genuinely overwhelming in person, far larger than most visitors expect. Walk through the San Marco neighbourhood and up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a late afternoon panorama of the whole city. Farewell dinner at a restaurant on the hill with views over the Duomo and the Arno.
