Your 7-Day New York Plan

A week in New York gives you enough time to go beyond the tourist circuit — Harlem, the Cloisters, Astoria's food scene, and an evening at a live music venue — while still spending quality time at the major sights.

Day 1
High Line, Chelsea, and Midtown
Walk the High Line from Gansevoort Street to 34th, drop into Chelsea Market for coffee, and explore the Hudson Yards development. Head to Times Square, then end the evening with dinner in Hell's Kitchen.
Day 2
Central Park and the Met
Spend a full morning in Central Park: Bethesda Fountain, the Ramble, and Strawberry Fields. Afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum — aim for the Egyptian Temple of Dendur and the Impressionist galleries. Dinner on the Upper East Side.
Day 3
Statue of Liberty and Wall Street
Early ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Walk back through lower Manhattan: Wall Street, the Charging Bull, the 9/11 Memorial pools. Evening in Tribeca or the West Village.
Day 4
Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, spend the afternoon in DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights, then take the subway to Williamsburg for dinner and bar-hopping on Bedford Avenue.
Day 5
MoMA and 5th Avenue
MoMA in the morning (book ahead for a Thursday evening opening). Walk south down 5th Avenue from the Guggenheim past Rockefeller Center to the New York Public Library. Evening at a rooftop bar or comedy club.
Day 6
Harlem and the Cloisters
Take the A train north to the Cloisters — the medieval art museum in Fort Tryon Park is one of New York's most underrated gems. Walk south through Harlem in the afternoon: Apollo Theater, Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster for dinner, and a live gospel brunch spot if visiting Sunday.
Day 7
One World Observatory, Farewell
Start at One World Trade Center and Observatory for morning views. Walk the waterfront to the South Street Seaport. Farewell lunch in Chinatown or the Lower East Side, and a last wander through the East Village before heading to the airport.
