Day 1
Hofburg and Inner City
Hofburg Palace, Ring Boulevard, Opera.
Day 2
Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Grand Tour, gardens, Gloriette, Prater.
Day 3
Belvedere and Klimt
Upper Belvedere, The Kiss, Naschmarkt.
Day 4
Kunsthistorisches Museum
Full morning at KHM, Ringstrasse afternoon, evening concert.
Day 5
Naschmarkt and MuseumsQuartier
Naschmarkt Saturday (the best day — farmers and vintage clothing stalls join the regular food vendors). MuseumsQuartier in the afternoon: the Leopold Museum (Schiele and Klimt) and MUMOK (modern art) are both outstanding.
Day 6
Hallstatt Day Trip
Hallstatt is 3 hours from Vienna by train and ferry — the lakeside village with its dramatic Alpine backdrop is genuinely as beautiful as the photographs suggest. The salt mine tour (the world's oldest) and the views from the Skywalk are highlights. Return by evening.
Day 7
Vienna Woods and Farewell
Klosterneuburg monastery (10 minutes by S-Bahn) for its magnificent Baroque tower and wine cellars. Kahlenberg hill walk, Heuriger wine tavern for a final long lunch.
