Your 7-Day Athens Plan
A week in Athens means you can be genuinely unhurried — two Acropolis visits (sunrise and sunset are completely different experiences), the Delphi day trip, and time to discover the neighbourhood restaurants and wine bars that are the real Athens.
Day 1
The Acropolis
Early morning Acropolis at opening, Acropolis Museum afternoon.
Day 2
Ancient Agora and Monastiraki
Ancient Agora, Monastiraki, Plaka.
Day 3
Cape Sounion
Temple of Poseidon sunset day trip.
Day 4
National Archaeological Museum
Full morning NAM, afternoon Exarchia neighbourhood.
Day 5
Hydra Island
Hydrofoil to car-free Hydra, harbour town, swimming coves by water taxi.
Day 6
Delphi Day Trip
Delphi is 2.5 hours from Athens by bus — the ancient sanctuary of Apollo, the Omphalos (navel of the world), and the mountain setting make it one of the most atmospheric ancient sites in Greece. The archaeological museum contains the extraordinary Charioteer of Delphi bronze statue.
Day 7
Koukaki and Farewell
Koukaki is Athens's most pleasant neighbourhood for a final morning — excellent coffee, the Filopappou Hill walk for last Acropolis views, and excellent tavernas for a farewell lunch. Evening at a rooftop bar in Monastiraki watching the sun go down on the Parthenon.
